Founded in 1986 by the Gilman brothers, Global Effects creates wardrobe and props for film and television. It specializes in NASA space suits, space hardware, historical costumes, armor, weapons, bio-hazard suits, sci-fi wardrobe and props, and horror wardrobe and props. The company manufacturers, sells and rents all types of costumes, props, sets, creatures and makeup effects. It strives for excellence in its products and friendly customer service. Credentials include Watchmen, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Last Samurai, to name just a few.
Toluca Studio Cleaners is a dry cleaner and shoes repair store. With a plant on the premises, the store offers dry cleaning and laundry services that include fluff and fold, shirt laundering, household rugs and comforters and same-day service. Toluca Studio Cleaners also offers tailoring and alterations, where no job is too big or too small, from sewing on a button, to hems and seams. Environmentally-friendly cleaning materials are used and plenty of parking is available in the lot.
Fulton Shoe Repair has been serving North Hollywood since 1955. Located within the Reparacion de Calzado Drycleaners, it offers a fuller range of shoe and leather repair services. Owner Jose Benasquet does all of his own work. Called the "Shoe van Gogh" by customers, he does everything from dying shoes to heel replacement. The small shop has a window into the work room, from which customers to observe work being done.
Tailor, Jaime Castaneda, may be the coolest guy in town. He creates custom tailored western apparel for some of Country and Rock and Roll's biggest performers. His artistic needle work, beading and shimmer have adorned the stage outfits of Bob Dylan, Chris Isaak and Dwight Yoakam. He opened this studio in 1994, when he left the studios of Nudie's Rodeo Tailors and the studio of Manuel Cuevas, where he was the head tailor.
