The Mormon Tabernacle at Temple Square is located in the heart of Historic Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Used as a concert hall for recitals and performances by various groups, including the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the tabernacle is open for visitors year round and is perfect for anyone interested in music. The hall boasts an impressive acoustic design and a magnificent pipe organ.

Parking and Public Transportation at the Mormon Tabernacle
The best place to park is at the underground garage at the City Creek Center just across the street to the south. You will have to pay hourly for parking, but it can be redeemed if you decide to shop or eat at the mall. If you'd rather take public transportation, there are plenty of TRAX light-rail stops and bus stops around the tabernacle. The Utah Transit Authority even provides a free fare zone for all public transportation as long as you get on and off inside the area surrounding the tabernacle.

Getting Tickets at the Mormon Tabernacle
Visiting the tabernacle is free and no tickets are required to go inside and look around. However, there are some special performances that occur during Christmastime that do require tickets. For information on those performances, you'll want to visit the Mormon Tabernacle Choir website.

Types of Concerts at the Mormon Tabernacle
As can be imagined, most of the performances at the tabernacle are religious and classical in nature. However, that does not mean that they are specific to the Mormon religion. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has sung for decades all of the world for various audiences. Christmas holiday music, classical orchestral pieces, and organ recitals are just some of the types of music performed here.

Other Places to Visit Near the Mormon Tabernacle
Located at the heart of the city makes it easy to couple a visit to the Mormon Tabernacle with other interesting venues. Take advantage of the rest of the sites at Historic Temple Square while you are already there. Follow that up with a visit to the Utah State Capitol just a half mile to the north and then a visit to a local favorite, Crown Burgers, for dinner.

Where to Stay Near the Mormon Tabernacle
There are a couple of more expensive hotels located just across the street from the tabernacle; however, don't be afraid to go a few blocks to the south for a wider variety of options. You'll find 2-star hotels as well as higher-priced options, either type of which are located in close proximity to the tabernacle.

Insider Tip for Visitors to the Mormon Tabernacle
If you are really interested in seeing a free performance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, plan on going to a session of Music and the Spoken Word, a free live broadcast featuring the choir that happens every Sunday morning at 9:30. Children under 8 are not permitted at the 30-minute performance. Be sure to arrive at the tabernacle when the doors open at 8:30 a.m. to get your pick of seats.

Arches, a site within the vast National Park Service, is incredibly unique and always different. Located 5 miles north of Moab, Utah and 350 miles north of Grand Canyon National Park’s South Rim, Arches is a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures unlike any other in the world. Over 2,000 natural stone arches abound throughout the park, along with what the Park Service describes as hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive fins and giant balanced rocks. It's been called a "red rock wonderland" full of trails, amazing sites and breathless sunsets.
