Utah Retirement Systems, based in Salt Lake City, provides financially sound retirement and suitable investment benefits, as well as comprehensive health and dental, disability, and life insurance benefits to active and retired Utah public employees and their beneficiaries. In addition to public employees engaged in various government offices, the system also covers judges, legislators and governors in the state. Custody of the retirement funds has been transferred from the state treasurer to a retirement board, and the Utah Retirement System has been declared an independent agency. Appointed by the governor, board members are experts in retirement, banking, and investments. The board appoints an executive director to carry out day-to-day operations of the organization and together they administer the operations.
