East Brunswick Fire District No. 1is one of three fire districts in the township. The department is responsible for a 10-square-mile radius. It is made up of 60 volunteers that respond from three stations. The department responds to emergencies such as structural fires, brush fires, motor vehicle accidents, extrications, carbon monoxide alarms, fire alarms, haz-mats and water rescues. The department responded to 478 calls in 2009 and passed the 500 call mark by early December, 2010. It has stations at Civic Center, Pine Street and Fern Road.
