Artisan ales and good conversation — that's what Beltane Brewing Company brings to the Bel Marin Keys section of Novato. Opened in December 2012, Beltane is a small-batch brewing operation with a cozy tasting room about the size of a master bedroom. Brewer Alan Atha and business manager Cathy Portje wanted to create a social gathering place in a part of town that doesn't have many. It's no sports bar — there are no TVs. It's suited for people who want to enjoy each other without distractions. Beltane's beer selection, presented on 12 taps, is full-bodied, eclectic and available to-go. If you're hungry, bring your own — only pretzels and peanuts are available. Live acoustic music presented on some evenings.
