They can be used when a patient has lost real teeth on the mandibular arch, maxillary arch, or both. Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure that attempts to remove infection, which is usually the result of a failed root canal surgery. This infection can happen from the tip of the root where nerves and blood vessels enter the tooth and travel through a canal inside the root and pulp chamber inside the crown. Crowns or bridges are restorations that are fabricated in a lab that reproduces the entire surface of the crown and fit it over a prepared tooth.
