The East Brunswick Parks Department manages nearly 1,000 acres of parkland and open spaces, including 11 developed and three undeveloped parks with facilities for tennis, basketball, handball, soccer and baseball. Playgrounds, nature trails and lakes and rivers for fishing and boating are also available. A Nature Center in Community Park holds many educational programs. The department also manages the Shade Tree Program, which cares for more than 30,000 street-side trees. East Brunswick picnic facilities and ball fields are available by reservation. Whilemany fields are used for league play, permits are issued at other times.Picnic permits also are available to groups up to 40 people. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. All picnic facilities include tables and grills.
