Ernest Lawrence Middle School was named for the 1939 Nobel Peace Prize winning physicist Ernest Orlando Lawrence. In 1930, Dr. Lawrence invented the cyclotron, which split the atom, paving the way to the atomic age. The Lawrence Gifted Magnet serves 360 gifted, highly gifted, and high ability students. The 120 students at each grade level take honors level classes wihin an accelerated curriculum.
