Established in 1926, the Cotuit Fire Department is run as a selectman style government separate from the town municipality. It serves 6.6 square miles within the village and provides a variety of services including water, response to spills, leaks, electrical problems and down wires, rescue services and accident response, well being checks, lockouts and lock ins and educational programming plus its firefighting duties.
Barnstable Fire Departments also provide emergency medical services at the advanced life support level.
In addition to these services, the Cotuit Fire Department also sponsors a kids day with the other four fire districts and the Barnstable police.

The all-volunteer Edgartown Fire Department is located adjacent to the Edgartown Police Department, near the town center. A second, smaller station is located on Chappaquiddick. The force boasts approximately 40 firefighters, five full-time EMS personnel and 18 volunteer EMTs. Peter Shemeth serves as chief. The Edgartown Fire Museum, which houses historical memorabilia and antique trucks, is located behind the firehouse.
