Located on Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda, the Pacific Fencing Club is a fencing school founded and directed by Stanford University graduate Harold Hayes. Hayes' classes for adults and children, ages nine through 13, emphasize agility, composure, focus, sportsmanship and fine motor skill development. This state beach lies along the Silver Strand, a seven-mile strip of sand that connects Coronado Village and the city of Imperial Beach. The beach's history dates back to the turn of the century, when the famed "Tent City" opened, offering an alternative for those who wanted to enjoy Coronado's beaches but couldn't afford to stay at the Hotel Del.
Silver Strand State Beach is still a popular destination today. The location is unique in that it offers visitors the chance to swim in both the Pacific Ocean and the San Diego Bay. The beach also offers overnight camping for self-contained RVs. There is no tent camping.
Common activities include: swimming, sunbathing, surfing, fishing and volleyball playing. There is a large picnic area on the bayside, with an adjacent bike trail that goes all the way to downtown Coronado. Fire rings are available in the summer for evening bonfires, and there is free wi-fi in the camping areas.
Because it's a state beach, visitors must pay a fee to enter. Fees vary depending on length of stay.
