American Bird Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that aims to conserve wild birds and their habitats throughout the United States. It is the only U.S.-based group dedicated to overcome the threats faced by birds in the Western Hemisphere. The organization through its various bird conservation networks, including the Bird Conservation Alliance, North American Bird Conservation Initiative and Partners in Flight, identifies critical issues affecting birds. It also publishes quarterly magazine, Bird Conservation and the newsletter, Bird Calls. The organization offers various resources on its Web site, including reports on bird deaths, global warming and field guides, and conservation directory. American Bird Conservancy has branches in the Plains, Va., and Washington, D.C.

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is a nonprofit animal welfare organization that provides a safe environment for the lost, abandoned, and homeless animals of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and places them in good homes. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the abandoned and homeless animals of the city of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle and to increase the number of them being placed into appropriate, loving and permanent homes through adoptions, foster care, and outreach. We strive to set a standard of excellence and leadership in shelter animal care, humane education, and progressive animal welfare programs.
