Dr. Evermor's Forevertron is really the only reason for tourists to visit North Freedom, WI (population 703), but few of them come away disappointed. One of the largest scrap-metal sculptures in the world, the Forevertron incorporates Thomas Edison dynamos from the 1880s, power-plant components from the 1920s, and a decontamination chamber from the Apollo 11 spacecraft into a futuristic-looking 50-foot tall monument. The Forevertron itself is surrounded by a vast art park with more scrap sculptures that are as weird and whimsical as the Forevertron is imposing.

Parking and public transportation at Dr. Evermor's Forevertron
You won't be able to reach the Forevertron by public transit, so you'll need to take a car. Park it in the lot at Delaney's Surplus or along the road outside, then head behind the building to enter the park.

Best and worst time to go to Dr. Evermor's Forevertron
The park is large and remote, so it rarely ever gets crowded. Do pick a sunny day to visit-the park is entirely outdoors, with few places to take shelter from the rain. If you're coming from far away, call Lady Eleanor, the park manager, to confirm the Forevertron is open, as hours can be unpredictable.

Admission to Dr. Evermor's Forevertron
Admission to the Forevertron and surrounding art park is free.

Must see/do at Dr. Evermor's Forevertron
The Forevertron itself is the sculpture park's centerpiece. According to official lore, it was built in 1890 by the mysterious Dr. Evermor, who intended to ascend into space in the egg-shaped copper vessel that sits at its peak. Of course, the enormous structure was actually built by self-taught artist Tom Every, who also created the other whimsical sculptures in the park. Make sure not to miss the Bird Band--a cluster of 70 large bird sculptures made from musical instruments--or the giant bugs that stand near the park entrance.

Other places to visit near Dr. Evermor's Forevertron
The Forevertron is less than a half-hour drive from Wisconsin Dells, known for its enormous indoor-outdoor waterparks and other family-friendly attractions. To the south, Devil's Lake State Park offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, boating, swimming, and camping. The state capital of Madison, WI is only slightly further afield.

Insider tip for visitors to Dr. Evermor's Forevertron
On sunny days, the art park is a great picnic spot. The park has no bathrooms, however, so make sure you don't chug too much lemonade with your lunch.
