Essex American Legion Post 148 is a local post of the American Legion, an organization representing veterans of the United States armed forces. Post 148 has a kitchen which is open Friday through Sunday and serves such meals as cheese burgers, fish sandwiches, chicken breast sandwiches, fried shrimp, sweet potato fries and freedom fries. There is also a bar which has a smaller menu and is always available. The bar menu contains hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, rib sandwiches and more. It hosts private events such as live music and parties and is equipped with a pool table.
