The University of Northern Iowa Iowa has 33 academic departments within its five academic colleges. Prior to 1967, the University of Northern Iowa had several institutional names: Iowa State Normal School; Iowa State Teachers College, and the State College of Iowa.
Over 13,000 students currently attend the school. Simpson College in West Des Moines is a branch campus of Simpson College of Indianola, Iowa, founded in 1860 by the Iowa United Methodist Church. The campus in West Des Moines is located just off of I-80/I-235 in an office building. Simpson WDM is primarily a two-year adult education center offering accelerated evening courses at affordable prices. Simpson has eight degree programs, its most popular courses of study being teaching and criminal justice. Online courses are also available.
Upper Iowa University has expanded to include three satellite locations in Iowa and seven other campuses in surrounding states. This local branch campus offers a variety of degree programs and certifications in subjects such as psychology, criminal justice, accounting, business and emergency and disaster management. The university also offers online master's programs. This university was founded in 1857 in Fayette, Iowa.
