In fall 1990, several families who had been attending the Somers Baptist Church began a home Bible Study group. That group became the nucleus of the Ellington Baptist Church. In September 1992, initial public services were held in Center School as an extension of the Somers Baptist Church. In 1993, the Ellington Baptist Church was established as its own church. On March 7, 2004, the church held its first service in its own multi-purpose building on Pinney Street.
The desire is to faithfully preach, teach, and live the word of God. Ellington Baptist Church desires to give every resident in town the opportunity to know the Bible better and to understand what it says about God and man, life and death and the present and the future. There is also the desire to expose everyone to the gospel of Jesus Christ and allow people to make their own decision with regard to the claims of Jesus on their lives. The church provides a loving, forgiving, and accepting atmosphere where people can grow in their relationship with God.
The Conservative Baptist Association of America is a fellowship of approximately 1,100 churches across the country, including 250 that can be found in the northeastern part of the country.
Founded more than 50 years ago, Ridgefield Baptist Church offers weekly services and a number of fellowship programs and activities for its parish members, including Bible study, family night services, Friday night social services, youth and kids programs, Sunday school programs and nursery services.
Faith Lighthouse is a Conservative Baptist church in south Norwalk. Though the church is small, it holds a loyal following in the neighborhood. Worship services are held daily in the morning and evening. The church also offers Bible study and Sunday school for children.
The Pilgrim Christian Fellowship is a small, colonial-style church located on Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury. It holds Sunday services and Sunday school weekly. The church is handicap-accessible and a large parking lot is available to all patrons.
As the only African-American church in New Canaan, the Community Bapist Church of New Canaan has a rich tradition of autonomy. Originally it was a Methodist church, but two women from South Carolina who travelled to New Canaan in the 1930's changed that.
They got involved in the church, and were going to be sent away to serve as missionaries. But they wanted to stay so they pushed to make the church Baptist, a denomination that wouldn't require them to go on missions. They succeeded.
Members of this small church feel a tight sense of connection between each other. Every Thursday at 1 p.m. there is an adult bible study, and on the fourth Wednesday of every month church members sing at Waveny Park.
