Benihana specializes in Japanese cooking styles and food products. It has served more than 1 billion meals since it opened in 1964. Rocky Aoki opened his first Benihana restaurant in New York. The restaurant serves steaks, scallops, shrimp, chicken, calamari, salmon, beef and mushrooms. Its dessert menu includes ice cream, banana tempura and ice cream rolls. Benihana offers a special menu for children. In addition, the restaurant serves a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, such as juices, banana berry smoothies, vodka, rum, and peach and strawberry liqueurs. It operates more than 70 restaurants worldwide, including over 50 Benihana teppanyaki restaurants, nearly five Haru sushi restaurants and approximately 14 RA Sushi Bar restaurants. In addition, 19 franchised Benihana teppanyaki restaurants operate in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. It maintains a presence in San Francisco, and the restaurants chefs prepare the food at the guests tables in teppanyaki style.
