Operated by the Woodbridge Housing Authority, Cooper Towers is a low-income community for senior citizens. The facility features 75 units, several of which are ADA adapted, and transportation services are available. Cooper Towers is located in quaint downtown Iselin.
The Arthritis Foundation of New Jersey sets up walks, fundraisers, meetings and more. The organization helps raise money for people with arthritis, as well as for funding research.
The Ocean County Animal Facility is located on Haywood Road in the Stafford Park Plaza. It currently houses cats and dogs. The state requires Ocean County to harbor the stray animals for seven days hoping the owners will be located. If not they are up for adoption. You can view some of the animals on its Web site. It also accepts the surrender of animals for a fee of $45 for cats and $65 for dogs. Stop in today and add a new addition to your family.
The Summit Italian-American Civic Federation 146 provides its members with a supportive social outlet. The organization's clubhouse features outdoor picnic tables and a bocce playing area.
The Junior League of Summit is a women's organization dedicated to advancing the interests of children and families in the Summit area through volunteerism. The local organization was founded by 25 women in 1929, and has grown to more than 500 women today. Its purpose is educational and charitable, and it reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins.
Programs at the Summit YMCA include swim lessons and aquatics, child care, community development, day camp, sports and recreation, and fitness and wellness programs.
New Jersey Operation Shoebox collects donated supplies and shipping materials to send care packages to soldiers serving overseas. While the packing events may take place in many different towns, the main warehouse and drop-off location are in Hillsborough.
The Knights of Columbus is loacted in Forked River, Lacey. It is the Father Capadano Council #6522. The Knights of Columbus was established as a fraternal benefit society with the purpose of financially assisting members and their families. Knights of Columbus aids the sick, disabled and needy.
This Knights of Columbus meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm.
Summit Downtown is a non-profit corporation which represents all retailers and businesses in the Special Improvement District. The purpose of SDI is to encourage the development and improvement of the quality of life in the business community in the downtown. It is governed by a 21 member Board of Trustees that is comprised of downtown retailers, downtown property owners, community residents, members of the Common Council, the Mayor and the City Administrator.
The tax revenues are dedicated to benefit the downtown and the City of Summit. We promote the downtown and its retail/business community through print and online advertising throughout the year and events such as Annual Restaurant Week, Girl's Night Out, Summit Farmers Market, Antique/Classic Car Show, Street Fair & Craft Show, Trick or Treat at Halloween, and December Holiday Events. We also partner with other non-profits such as the Summit Historical Society, Suburban Chambers of Commerce, Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Shaping Summit Together, etc.
The Board of Trustees meets the last Wednesday of each Month (except December), 8 a.m. City Hall.
