Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS) cares for more than 2,500 animals a year in its Brookfield shelter that was built in 2004. With staff and some 200 volunteers, the shelter offers a wide variety of animals for adoption. 

EBHS contracts to provide animal rescue and other services for the City of Brookfield, Villages of Butler, Chenequa, Elm Grove, Nashotah and the Towns of Brookfield and Delafield. The agency also offers educational programs with area schools on responsible pet ownership and animal care.

The group has created an environmentally friendly area through building a green addition to the farmhouse, as well as installing solar hot water, solar electric, and geo-thermal heating and cooling. The center offers tours for groups, as well as ecology camps, birthday parties and educational trips. This is Post 434 of the American Legion. The American Legion is a non-profit organization for veterans that offers community service and mutual helpfulness. It offers local programs and activities dedicated to promoting patriotism and supporting those who serve and have served the country.

This post offers events for the local community at its hall and a schedule of events can be viewed on the website. Annual Christmas and Easter parties are the two big events of the year. Baseball games and horseshoe playing are regular summer activities this post offers. Fish fry dinners are held from 5pm to 9pm on Fridays for the months of September to May. 

The hall features a full bar and can fit 300 guests for events. Rental of the hall is offered for weddings, showers, graduations, brunches, meetings, parties, anniversaries and other private events.

The Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ReStore carries overstocked, discounted, new and used building materials donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals. The store is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC with all items sold at a fraction of the retail cost. Proceeds from everything sold at the ReStore help fund Habitat’s mission of building affordable homes for Milwaukees low income families. Staffed largely by volunteers, the ReStore is Milwaukees eco-friendly location to both donate and shop for your home building supplies and furnishings. The ReStore helped keep over 730,000 pounds of usable materials out of landfills in 2010. Consider donating your used or new building materials, furniture or appliances to the ReStore.
