Concerned about making decisions about abused and neglected childrens lives without sufficient information, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court. So successful was this Seattle program, that soon judges all over the country began utilizing citizen advocates. In 1990, the United States Congress encouraged expansion of this program with the passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act. Today over 950 CASA programs are in operation, with 52, 000 men and women serving as CASA volunteers. Our mission: Court Appointed Special Advocates ( C.A.S.A. ) of Canadian County provide specially trained community volunteers the opportunity to advocate for abused and neglected cildren, ensuring a safe, permanent home as provided by Title 10 of the Oklahoma Statutes. The goal of the program is to provide staff support to CASA volunteers to ensure that children recieve sound advocacy.
