MISSION Our mission is to improve the lives of children and their families through a coordinated response to child abuse and neglect. In 1978, Floridas Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services recognized the need for specialized child-friendly services to assist in child abuse and neglect investigations, and developed Child Protection Teams under the auspices of Childrens Medical Services. The teams were developed to provide medically directed, multidisciplinary assessments to assist in the identification of maltreatment and the assessment of risk. In 1985, the National Childrens Advocacy Center movement began and soon the concept of advocacy centers emerged in Florida. These centers provided child-friendly settings where investigations could occur and where treatment and prosecution plans could be designed. They also became sites for development of preventive strategies to reduce incidence of child abuse. The first Childrens Advocacy Center in Florida opened in 1994, in Daytona Beach, serving Volusia and Flagler Counties. The Childrens Advocacy Center was formed in 2001. Today there are 22 Childrens Advocacy Centers in the state.

About Ranch The Good Samaritan Boys Ranch was founded in 1959 by the Reverend Bob Johnson of Seminole Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Since then our mission has been to provide hope for those who have not had hope and to provide a safe and caring home for those boys who have come from broken or non-existent homes. We help boys who have been abused and neglected to become responsible, productive young adults. We believe our dedication to this end benefits society in our area as a whole by preventing the recycling of child abuse from generation to generation and cutting the chain of problematic behavior. The Good Samaritan Boys Ranch is an investment in the future. The Good Samaritan Boys Ranch is located 14 miles north of Springfield on Highway 13 in Brighton, on 180 acres of wooded and pasture land. We have an administration building, on-grounds schooling, a multi-purpose gymnasium, an indoor swimming pool, an indoor and outdoor horseback riding arenas, a chapel and seven resident dormitories, including four safe and secure units designed to care for children with more serious emotional and behavioral needs. All of our boys are supervised 24-hours a day by our youthcare staff who are trained in crisis prevention. We have a recreation therapist who works with the boys to develop team spirit, fair play, self-confidence and an ability to trust others once more. Our horsemanship program is our trademark with the boys learning self-confidence through riding and handling the daily chores of tending over thirty horses. Licensed residential therapists conduct individual and family therapy to aid the child and family towards reunification. We have a transitional living program in Springfield that allows young men the opportunity to further their education and learn necessary life-skills to help them later in life. Our school at the Boys Ranch is staffed by teachers from the Pleasant Hope School District who are all trained in teaching children who are learning disabled and behavior disordered. Most of our boys newly arriving at the Ranch need this extra attention because of the environment in which they come from. Once their learning is at a sufficient level and they are able to interact with other children, they are mainstreamed into public school at Pleasant Hope High School. Our boys come to us from all over the State of Missouri and can be placed by state agencies or on a private placement. We are licensed by Missouri Division of Family Services, Missouri Division of Youth Services and the Department of Mental Health as a Child Care Facility. We are also accredited with the Council on Accreditation.
