The Local Christian Assembly church has created a tight-knit community of member families from in and around the Forest Hills area, as well as parishioners who come from other areas in the city. Founded in 1963, the church started in a humble home and has steadily grown its congregation in size and scope, moving into several different buildings before finally finding its current lot and erecting the standing church on 70th Avenue in 2003. According to the church, the congregation and organization of the Local Christian Assembly owes its existence and outreach to its founder, Joseph Coleman.
