The Neighborhood Housing and Community Development (NHCD) department works to provide housing, community and small business development services to benefit residents to have access to livable neighborhoods and increase opportunities for self-sufficiency. The department is also responsible for providing grant funding to various agencies and nonprofit organizations. It works to offer education and assistance to address fair housing and lending practices. The Neighborhood Housing and Community Development department s Austin Shelter for Women and Children is responsible for providing emergency shelter to single adult women. The department works to administer the Neighborhood Commercial Management Program. It is governed by the City of Austin in Texas.
