Will & Ariel Durant Library is a part of the Los Angeles community of  libraries and is located on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and North Detroit Street. The West Hollywood Library is named after Ariel and Will Durant, who were both writers that were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 for Rousseau and Revolution, the tenth volume of The Story of Civilization. This library has a limited collection of reference books and periodicals and computer work stations. In addition to providing internet access, the workstations enable the public to search LAPLs many electronic resources, including the online catalog, over 100 subscription databases, word processing, language learning, literacy, and a large historic document and photograph collection. The library has a free parking lot at the back of the building.

The California State Archives collects, catalogs, preserves, and provides access to the historic records of state government and some local governments. The collections also include some private papers that have been donated to the Archives. It consists of millions of paper documents, maps, photographs, three dimensional artifacts, and records in other formats such as audiotape and videotape. The firm has specialized programs to collect and preserve records of state government. It holds 170,000 square foot building has six floors of environmentally controlled stacks, including a number of specialized vaults, which house the Archives collections.

Now in its 50th year, the Montana Branch of the Santa Monica Public Library serves the community's north side. The original iteration of this branch was located at a rented storefront space near 15th and Montana; on March 1, 1960, it reopened at its current location, which was designed by architect Weldon Fulton. The Montana Branch is accessible by the Big Blue Bus (Line 3) and the Crosstown Ride.
