Located in City Hall, the City of Mountain View Public Works Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance and coordination of the City's infrastructure and facilities. Other services include solid waste removal and recycling, traffic and issuance of private development. The Public Services Division, Engineering Division and Transportation and Property Services Division are smaller branches of this department.

The Mountain View Center for the Performing Arst (MVCPA) offers the residents of the Peninsula the opportunity to watch and experience great music, dance, theater, lectures and family events in two state-of-the-art spaces: the MainStage seats 600 and the SecondStage that seats 200. The MVCPA also operates the ParkStage, an outdoor ampitheater next to Pioneer Park.
Adjacent to City Hall and the Mountain View Public Library, the MVCPA showcases cultural diversity and talent via programs such as TheatreWorks and Peninsula Youth Theatre among other area acts.
In addition, the MVCPA features the work of local artists on a rotating basis.
The Shoreline Ampitheatre is a large outdoor theater with 22,000 seats, 15,000 of which are unreserved lawn seats. The amphitheatre opened in 1986 and regularly brings in top musicians. Free parking is available on a dirt lot and VIP parking is available, though the price for the VIP service is steep: $40 a car, $80 for an RV, limo or bus.
With thousands of books, CDs, and DVDs, the City of Mountain View Public Library offers many areas in and around the library for patrons to enjoy learning and expanding their knowledge. From City Hall downtown, the City of Mountain View's 11 government departments -- City Attorney, City Clerk, City Manager, Community Development, Community Services, Human Resources, Finance and Administrative, Library, Fire, Police and Public Works -- coordinate the day-to-day services that keep the 12 square mile city of nearly 75,000 people functioning.
At City Hall, the seven members of the City Council meet in Chambers to vote on policy and set the direction for the city's future. Each year in January, the Council elects one of its members as Mayor and another as Vice Mayor. The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk and City Auditor. The City Manager supervises all other city employees.
The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program is run through the Santa Clara County Services Program Office located on Moffett Boulevard.
CalWORKs gives short-term cash aid and services to families in need. Other programs and services can include Food Stamps, medical coverage, child support, Welfare-to-Work and family planning.
To qualify, an applicant's citizenship, age, income, resources, assets, children in homes with an absent, disabled, deceased or unemployed parent (must be main earner) are considered. Needy households with foster children are also considered. CalWORKs also considers the number of eligible people and the special needs of family members.
