If you're having trouble finding the parking clerk's office in City Hall, just make your way to the second floor and look for the longest lines. The office manages all parking permits and tickets for the city through its multiple service windows at City Hall and, on any given day at any given time, the wait can be serious.

The parking clerk adjudicates all fines and fees from parking tickets, so appeals are handled through the office too.

Full explanations of how to obtain a residential parking permit, how to get a special occupancy parking permit (for delivery trucks) and how to challenge or pay a ticket are available at the parking clerk's website.

The site also offers e-mail alerts for street sweeping in a particular neighborhood and a search function for towed cars.
