The Elks is one of the largest fraternal organizations in the United States. The Peabody Lodge (#1409) boasts a membership in excess of 500 men. Among its benevolent acts, the Elks sponsor scholarships and services for veterans through cooperation with local VA Hospitals and its own efforts to memorialize the sacrifice of those who have served.
There are three things you should know about the Portuguese American War Vets organization. One: you don't have to be Portuguese. Two: you don't have to be American. Three: you don't have to be a veteran. But you probably like the company of any of the above listed. So, you come to shoot some pool, shoot the breeze, watch a game or have a beer. The hall is also available for wedding and other social functions.
This private club was organized in 1895. In the years since members have settled in to the current location in Peabody, which boasts an 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Donald Ross -- deemed one of his best. The large, beautiful colonial clubhouse contains dining rooms for members and function rooms which can be rented with catering for weddings and other occasions.
This chapter of the Knights of Columbus is located right in the middle of downtown Peabody. The Knights Columbus are one of the world's largest Catholic organization, and its fraternity of Catholic brothers pride themselves on their community service and financial support of the Catholic Church in Rome. Members enjoy a plethora of community sporting activities, cook-outs and dinners, as well as plenty of opportunities to engage in fellowship with other Catholics.
