Founded in 1877, the Museum of Art is a part of Rode Island School of Design. It exhibits a collection of more than 80,000 pieces of artwork. The museum is an over 70,000-square-foot facility that houses various historic buildings. It features Charles Pendleton House, which contains decorative arts from18th and 19th centuries . Located in Providence, R.I., the museum exhibits prints, drawings, photographs, costumes and textiles. It also maintains Egyptian galleries that feature the coffin and mummy of the priest Nesmin, as well as a collection of burial objects and faience. The museum features works of several artists from Africa, India, China, and Central and South America. In addition, the Museum of Art showcases paintings from various American painters, including Copley, Stuart, Cole and Sully.
