Environmental Health is a division of the government of Maricopa County in Arizona. The division reviews and approves construction plans for food production facilities, including restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, boarding homes and school cafeterias. It inspects food establishments, public accommodations and pet shops, as well as public and semipublic swimming pools. Environmental Health also issues operating permits. The division offers education and training programs for environmental health specialists and food service workers and managers. It provides a construction guide for architects and building contractors. In addition, it conducts routine inspections for licensed day care, assisted living and county jail facilities. Environmental Health publishes a newsletter.

The mission of the Flood Control District of Maricopa County is to provide regional flood hazard identification, regulation, remediation and education to Maricopa County, Ariz., residents so that they can reduce the risks of injury, death and property damage from flooding, while still enjoying the natural and beneficial values served by floodplains. For 30 years, the district s focus revolved around the design and installation of flood control structures. However, by 1990, approximately 70 structures had been installed, and the district s focus moved to operations and maintenance and non-structural solutions. The district s office is located in Phoenix.
