In operation for more than 70 years the Gaithersburg - Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department serves the communities of Gaithersburg, Washington Grove, Derwood and Montgomery Village. It offers fire fighting, emergency medical, administrative and auxiliary services. The department operates a hazardous materials unit and fire stations. It maintains a command car, backup engine, brush truck and fire fighting rig. The department also has a utility truck that features a generator, lighting equipment and tools. It operates a museum that stocks a collection of helmets, uniforms, badges, department logs, radios and touch-screen computers. The Gaithersburg - Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department maintains an assembly hall that can accommodate gatherings of over 140 people and is available for weddings and parties on a rental basis.
