Founded in 1967, Ninth District Opportunity is a private, nonprofit community action agency that serves people throughout northeast Georgia. The agency works in partnerships with low-income individuals to promote self-development, reliance and determination. It offers commodity foods distribution and weatherization services. The agency also provides cooling, food pantry and emergency rent assistance and indigent medicine programs. Ninth District Opportunity offers counseling for employment, energy conservation and family development. The agency provides assistance to improve job skills and maintain current employment. It operates programs in more than 10 northeast Georgia counties, including Douglas, Elbert, Fannin, Gwinnett, Stephens and Habersham.
