Lewis and Clark Fairgrounds Annual SpringFest brings a carnival, roller derby and outlaw country band to the Fairgrounds for a wild weekend of entertainment. Starting on Thursday, May 19th through Sunday May 22nd, bring the whole family to the NorthStar Carnival. Enjoy riding the ferris wheel, eating cotton candy, checking out the funhouse mirrors, and other carnival treats. Buy your full day tickets in advance to save $5 each day, or buy full-day or ride-specific tickets during the carnival. Tickets may be pre-purchased from the Fairgrounds office (457-8516) or on-line. Visit lccfairgrounds.com for more information. On Saturday night, come to the Fairgrounds for a wild night of roller derby and live music from the Bozeman band, Dirty Shame (outlaw country). This event is co-promoted by the Lewis and Clark Fairgrounds and Helz Belles, Helenas first and only roller derby league. Concessions and alcohol will be available at the event. Tickets are $13 in advance, and $16 at the door. A limited number of track-side seating is available for $25 per ticket. The Saturday night roller derby bout will feature a roller derby demonstration by Helz Belles (Helenas roller derby league) with a full-blown competition between the Electric City Roller Girls (Great Falls) versus the Roller Derby Dames (Billings) immediately following. Roller derby is a fast-paced competition between two teams of 5 skaters on a flat track. Each team attempts to score points by assisting their designated "jammer" to pass members of the other team, while jostling to prevent the other teams jammer from passing their team members. Roller derby is a dramatic, athletic sport which requires a great deal of athletic prowess, while also allowing for drama through special skater names, unique derby uniforms and a certain amount of contact between the skaters. The bouts typically feature a variety of live entertainment during half-time and after the show, and half-time entertainment will plentiful at the Springfest bout. Thousands of Montana fans gather for bouts across Montana. Following the bout, the Bozeman band "The Dirty Shame" will play. The Dirty Shame plays original outlaw country and hits from the likes of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. The Shame entertains crowds of all ages and walks of life. From heart wrenching ballads to foot stomping honky tonk the music is brought to life, and this show will definitely rock the Fairgrounds. Stay late and dance with Montanas roller derby skaters and referees. This fabulous event is brought to you in partnership by the Lewis and Clark Fairgrounds and Helz Belles Roller Derby. Helz Belles Roller Derby practices at the Lewis and Clark Fairgrounds on a weekly basis, and new skaters, referees and volunteers are always welcome.
