Founded in 1976, Sunrise Community has various locations in Florida, including one in Tallahassee. It is a nonprofit organization providing support and assistance to individuals suffering from developmental disabilities. The organization provides a wide range of services that include foster care, supported living, residential homes, respite care, supported employment, adult day program, after-school care, behavioral analysis and assessment, and physical, occupational and speech language therapies. It also offers environmental modifications, companion services, in-home training, transportation, personal care assistance, homemaker services and nonresidential support services. The organization provides all its services through registered and licensed practical nurses. Since its inception in 1998, FAAST has been and continues to be a resource to provide Floridians free access to information and assistance services, assistive technology device loans and demonstrations, training programs, and technical assistance to the state of Florida, community organizations, and the general public on extensive topics related to disability rights, laws/policies, and funding opportunities for assistive technology.
