Located in Clarksville, Tenn., Progressive Directions is a nonprofit organization that serves adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in Clarksville and Montgomery counties in Tennessee. Established in 1976, the organization serves more than 700 individuals annually and employs over 200 staff members. It provides services for children up to 3 years of age with special needs and adults over the age of 22 years with mental retardation diagnoses. Its early intervention services include developmental screenings and assessments, behavioral management, educational and community-based programs, family group activities, transportation and assistance with transition into school systems. It also offers physical and speech therapy evaluations, feeding therapy and family support groups. The organization offers various adult services, including day habilitation, residential programs, developmental and vocational training, case management, respite care and personal assistance. The agency is licensed by the state of Tennessee and funded by the Tennessee Division of Mental Retardation Services and United Way.
