After completing his postdoctoral training in 1987, Dr. Butler returned to the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio where he became both the chief of radiation oncology and the chief of brachytherapy. He also joined the faculty at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as a clinical assistant professor that same year. Dr. Butler would later join Baylor College of Medicine where he eventually became a full professor and chief of radiation oncology for both the medical school and the VA Hospital. In 1991, he became the medical director of radiation oncology at what was then The Methodist Hospital, and received his faculty appointment at the Weill Medical School in 2006. In 2008, Dr. Butler became the chairman of radiation oncology at Houston Methodist. In 2016, he was appointed to the Jim and Joan Harrell Chair in Radiation Oncology endowed position.Dr. Butlers research centers on preclinical and clinical studies that combine radiation therapy and gene therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer. In recent years, he has extended these successful studies to other cancers, notably pancreatic cancer. His research interests also include three-dimensional reconstruction of body organs to assist in better localization of radiation therapy. Dr. Gilchrist Jackson specializes in Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery. Prior to joining Houston Methodist Surgical Associates, Dr. Jackson built a productive surgical practice at Texas Oncology Surgical Specialists and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. He trained at University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine and at a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Head and Neck, Endocrine and Surgical Oncology sections. His clinical research interests include the diagnostic imaging for patients with hyperparathyroidism, the early diagnosis of thyroid cancer through FNA biopsy, parotid tumors, and function-preserving neck dissection for thyroid and other cancers.Dr. Jacksons extensive clinical practice includes patients with hyperparathyroidism, benign thyroid disease including goiter and Graves disease (hyperthyroidism) and all types of thyroid cancer including selective, limited or more extensive neck dissection. Surgery is carefully tailored to the extent of disease and includes MIP parathyroidectomy. Dr. Jackson treats MEN (multiple endocrine neoplasia) patients, and patients with adrenal functional tumors such as Conns (hyperaldosteronism), Cushings Syndromes, pheochromocytoma, and other adrenal tumors. He also treats neuoroendocrine and functional tumors. His other clinical interests include breast cancer surgery and diagnosis as well as head and neck cancer/tumors, melanoma, soft tissue sarcoma and other diseases of the salivary gland, colon, small intestine, stomach and pancreas. Dr. Aparna Kamat is the director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology for Houston Methodist and is currently the section leader for the Gynecologic Oncology service line. After completing medical training in India, Dr. Kamat completed her residency in OB/GYN at West Virginia University where she served as chief resident.She completed her fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. During her fellowship, she received multiple awards for her research in ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer including the Virginia K. Pierce award and the Asche Murray fellowship. She also received the prestigious BIRCWH award from the N.I.H. for her research in biomarkers for ovarian cancer. Dr. Kamat currently is the principle investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group Clinical Trials Program at Houston Methodist and offers several state-of-the-art clinical trials for patients with gynecologic malignancies.Her areas of expertise are robotic and minimally invasive surgical options for women with gynecologic cancers and complex pelvic disease.
