Dr. Young was born in Iowa and raised in South Texas. He graduated Suma Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He went on to receive his medical degree from the prestigious Mayo Medical School in 2010 on a full academic merit scholarship. Dr. Young completed his ophthalmology residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, which has been ranked the #1 eye hospital in the country for the past consecutive 15 years, according to U.S News and World Report’s Best Hospitals. During his residency, Dr. Young was the recipient of the “Bascom Palmer Resident Surgical Skill Award”, an award given to the resident who demonstrated the most outstanding surgical skills. Following residency, Dr. Young continued his post-graduate medical training with a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. During his last year at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, he served as the prestigious role of Chief Resident and Director of Ocular Trauma, where he was extensively involved in teaching surgical skills to residents and fellows in ophthalmology. Dr. Young specializes in the medical and surgical management of all diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula, as well as ocular trauma. His clinical expertise includes diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal diseases, including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusion, macular degeneration, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, among others. Dr. Young also has a special interest in pediatric retinal disease, including caring for premature infants with retinopathy of prematurity. Dr. Young is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has been an author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, such as JAMA-Ophthalmology, Retina, the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and the Journal of Clinical Ophthalmology. He has authored and edited several book chapters, including a section on pediatric retinal disease in the textbook Manual of Retinal Diseases. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and American Medical Association. In addition to his clinical work in Austin, Dr. Young has served extensively abroad. His most recent travel was to rural Ethiopia where he worked alongside local physicians providing medical and surgical care to patients of all ages. Dr. Young has a passion for wildlife and all things outdoors. Particularly, he enjoys saltwater sport fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast and bird hunting.

Dr. Wong grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude from Duke University. He received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Following a one year internship, Dr. Wong returned to the University of Pennsylvania for his residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Scheie Eye Institute, where he received a research grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the biological mechanisms of age-related macular degeneration. He concluded his post-graduate medical training with a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Wong specializes in the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases, including retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, macular puckers and holes, as well as ocular inflammatory diseases. On the leading edge of medical research since 1995, he is currently the Principal Investigator for a number of nationally recognized clinical research trials involving novel pharmaceutical and surgical treatments for vitreoretinal pathology. His current research focuses on how digital medicine impacts today’s healthcare environment. Locally, he has helped organize free eye screenings for Austin musicians in conjunction with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) and Prevent Blindness Texas. In addition to providing vitreoretinal care to the Central Texas community, Dr. Wong volunteered his expertise and skills on several medical missions throughout South America and Ghana from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Wong is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Diabetic Retinopathy Collaborative Research Network, Club Vit, Pacific Retina Club and is a founding member and program chair of the Third Coast Retina Club. In 2010 Dr. Wong was appointed by his peers to serve as President of the Austin Ophthalmological Society. Additionally, he has been recognized in Austin Monthly magazine’s “Top Doctors” as well Texas Monthly’s “Rising Stars” lists. He has authored over 20 published works in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and currently serves as an editor for the journals Retina and Retinal Cases & Brief Reports. He is a clinical assistant professor at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M Health Science Center, and in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He also serves as a mentor for the Health Career Mentorship Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Before becoming a retina specialist, Dr. Wong made a living playing acoustic bass in a jazz quintet. These days, he enjoys playing golf, traveling, cooking, and raising his two daughters with his wife, Emily. The team of mental health professionals at Community Clinical Research in Austin, Texas, are dedicated to providing the highest standard of compassionate care for those with mental illness through investigational pharmaceutical trials. Principal investigator, David Brown, MD, has over 20 years of experience in phase I-IV clinical trials that focus on treatment solutions for depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The Community Clinical Research team works collectively with mental health facilities and organizations in greater Austin, Dallas, and central Texas to recruit for clinical trials. The medical staff offers comprehensive psychiatric assessments for various mental illnesses to determine if individuals are suitable to participate in research studies. The staff is highly experienced in working with mental health issues and enjoys meeting participants. They prioritize patient safety and the integrity of data throughout each clinical trial in order to ensure the best possible outcome. Staff coordinators value the importance of effective communication among the various departments, including the inpatient clinical department, the laboratory research team, and the community liaison team. The Community Clinical Research inpatient center is made up of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and patient care technicians and the 20-bed unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to oversee inpatient clinical trials. The facility is equipped with a quiet room and a day room, which features recreational activities including a television and pool table. Inpatient staff works closely with laboratory staff for specimen collection, assessments, and to ensure the highest standard of participant care. Inpatients can enjoy the comfortable grounds and engage in many types of group activities, including movie nights, gardening, and games. In addition to working with participants throughout clinical trials, the Community Clinical Research staff also connects individuals with health care professionals and resources in their own communities for managing mental health conditions. Dr. Dooner was born in Wisconsin but spent much of his life, including his high school years, in Ireland. He graduated with distinction from the University of Rochester in New York, earning a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience at one of the nation’s top-tier research universities. Returning to Ireland, he received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1991. Completing a retina research fellowship at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Dooner later completed his ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Finally settling in Austin, he joined Austin Retina Associates in 1998. Dr. Dooner specializes in managing all diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula, including macular holes, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, ocular trauma and macular degeneration. He has also been the Principal Investigator for nationally recognized clinical research trials seeking newer and more effective surgical and pharmacological treatments for vitreoretinal pathologies. In addition to his community service contributions in Austin through educational seminars and lectures, Dr. Dooner is dedicated to the advancement of vitreoretinal care in developing countries. He lectured at the opening of the first retinal institute in Shanghai, China, and has lectured and performed surgery in Zimbabwe. Dr. Dooner is board certified in ophthalmology and is a past president of the Austin Ophthalmological Society. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, Texas Ophthalmology Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.
