Tuesday, 12 December 2006 CHRISTIE OVERHEAD DOOR was founded in 1945 by Paul Christie, as a home improvement company. This Brooklyn based company saw its neighborhood being developed faster than any one could keep up with. Paul quickly realized that with all this development, the garage door was a product that every builder needed. The CHRISTIE DOOR went into production, and soon every house in the neighborhood was adorned with a classic Redwood Raised Panel garage door with the CHRISTIE Signature ?LAMP LIGHT? Carvings. After several years, the Christie sons, John and Arthur, joined the company, and together they expanded the company?s product line. Soon you could see steel and fiberglass garage doors on homes and businesses all over Brooklyn and the surrounding areas. In 1984, the classic CHRISTIE DOOR and the new steel and fiberglass doors were dominating the market, and the Christie brothers needed to expand their installation force. An 18 year kid right out of high school, wet behind the ears, decided to enter the industry. Working with some of the best garage door companies in Brooklyn, this young, eager boy was determined to master the trade. In 1993, when the CHRISTIE brothers both decided to retire, this now seasoned 26 year old Technician who worked part time for the brothers jumped at the opportunity to carry on the CHRISTIE name with the same integrity that was instilled to him by Mr. Christie, and by the many others who had taught him during the previous eight years. From a cramped one car garage warehouse, Andrews?s hard work and a constant thirst for success pushed this small, one truck operation into a bustling, three truck business. In 1998 his largest competitor in the area agreed to sell Andrew his company, and move into his fifteen hundred square foot building. With a place to do business, and a command on the local market, Andrew and his wife dedicated themselves to giving value and professionalism to each and every one of their customers. In 2002, the company had expanded to six vehicles and twelve employees, who found themselves bursting at the seems. With the need for more room arising yet again, CHRISTIE OVERHEAD DOOR moved into their present five thousand square foot facility, with a beautiful showroom, plenty of office space, and a large warehouse with an installation and service training area. CHRISTIE OVERHEAD DOOR has been a leader in the industry for over 60 years, and we are still dedicated to bringing the highest quality products and services, well above the industry standards, to all of our customers. Andrew and his wife Carla remain extremely active in the garage door industry, making certain that they keep up on all the latest technology and safety, as well as new styles and trends. Andrew is the Vice-President of the NORTHEAST DOOR ASSOCIATION, and Carla is their Treasurer. CHRISTIE OVERHEAD DOOR is the only ACCREDITED DOOR DEALER in New York City, a title Andrew earned from the INSTITUTE OF DEALER EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATION (I.D.E.A.) upon completion of their seminars, and several tests. Andrew maintains his accreditation by attending industry seminars and speaking at seminars, all in an effort to promote professionalism within the garage door industry.
