The NVF Company is steeped in history. The Vulcanized Fiber Company was incorporated in Newark, Del., in 1875, taking over a plant site that began as a Grist Mill in 1715. One of the founders, Caesar Rodney, was the grandson of the first signer of the new Constitution of the United States, Rodneys partner was Frank Taylor, the man who held the patent for vulcanized fiber. The NVF Company as a whole maintains five buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Vulcanized fiber is manufactured using 100 percent recycled cotton waste from the garment industry. The vulcanization process produces a homogenous plastic like product that has literally thousands of uses, from the end caps on 9 volt batteries to fuse tubes in nearly every circuit breaker design worldwide. Vulcanized fiber is produced in roll form, and can then be laminated into thick sheet, rolled into tubes, or molded into rods. It has been used, for paper clips, trash and utility cans, silent gears, firemans helmets, and the list goes on. Over the years, NVF has expanded its product line and facilities to address the changing marketplace for engineered plastics and electrical/electronic insulations.
