Founded in 1971, Bonita Springs Utilities is a nonprofit utility that provides services to an area of 60-plus square miles. The company provides potable water, irrigation water and wastewater treatment to more than 20,000 homes and business located in and around the area of Bonita Springs, Fla. Its potable water is drawn from the lower Tamiami aquifer, tapped through two well fields and processed at the utility s facilities, which have a capacity of more than 20 million gallons of water per day. Its capacity for wastewater treatment is 7 million-plus gallons per day. It operates a primary plant and more than 40 small, privately owned treatment facilities, which are connected to the central plant and to the city s central sewer system.
