Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is between the two cities from which the airport was named, both in Manatee County in Florida. It is more known as Sarasota by locals and airlines as it is the more well known of the two. Most of the traffic coming through SRQ occurs during winter and spring, as the area is a popular destination for tourists trying to escape colder temperatures and take advantage of the area's warm weather. The airport also houses a waterfall in the terminal that acts an aesthetic nod to the region as well as being part of the air-conditioning system cooling the facility.
When the attacks of September 11, 2001 occurred, President Bush was visiting students at a school in nearby Sarasota. President Bush left SQR Airport in Air Force One to return to DC in order to handle the tragedy.
Sarasota International Airport transports just over half a million passengers annually. Currently Atlanta, Charlotte and New York City are the most popular domestic destinations. Delta Air Lines has the largest presence at the airport. There are short and long term options for parking. Taxis, city busses, airport shuttle services and on-site car rentals make getting to and from SRQ easy.
SQR has about six dining options including Dunkin’ Donuts and Gulf Breeze Café. In terms of shopping passengers can visit the TravelMart, PGA Tour Shop and the CNBC shop. If staying near the airport there is a Hyatt Place on site and 15 other options within two miles.
