Portland Funeral Chapel was opened May 26, 1996 by Scott and Kathryn Pruitt Hamm. Kathryn is a third generation funeral director. Scott married into the business in 1962. At that time, the Hamms were running a funeral home in Kentucky, which they did until moving to Portland in 1996. The Hamms have two children who operate H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in Jamestown, Kentucky. The Hamms want to be involved -- and are involved -- in community and civic affairs. Both are members of the Portland First Baptist Church. Scott is 32nd degree Mason and is immediate past president of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and Rotary as well as a board member of the Sumner United Chambers. Kathryn is a member of the Eastern Star, past president of Portlands Kiwanis Club and the 2001 Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year. Were family folks with a great dedication to our professions and those whom we serve. Every funeral is special. We realize the things we do today make the difference in someones tomorrow. Since 1935, Williams Funeral Home & Crematory has been providing custom funeral packages designed to celebrate life and serve families. This family-owned and operated business is more than a basic funeral home. All funeral directors are also Certified Celebrants; they work with each family to provide personalized consulting and guidance to ensure that the event is both meaningful and respectful. Funeral packages cover every detail required for a quality event. The caring staff take pride in the family-focused approach used when designing funeral services. Funeral packages can always be customized to include visitations, graveside services, military honors, caskets, and more. Families can choose from traditional funeral offerings, or design a less-formal event such as a life celebration or memorial. Williams Funeral Home & Crematory has owned and operated an on-site crematory for over 20 years. Unlike most other funeral homes that advertise cremation services and subcontract to other providers, the team at Williams Funeral Home & Crematory assures that their own licensed and certified employees will handle all details of the cremation. Direct cremation is available for families who want to simplify the services. Or, cremation can be combined with a memorial service or celebration of life. Pet cremations and pet services are available on request. The original funeral home was established in 1935 on Seventh Street in Columbia. In 2012, a tragic fire destroyed much of the building. But the bomb-shelter style construction in the basement protected precious items, including paperwork and files. The funeral home has been rebuilt, and the team is now proud to offer two locations for convenience. Williams Funeral Home & Crematory provides services for families throughout Maury County, including Columbia, Mt. Pleasant, Spring Hill, Lawrenceburg, and Pulaski. The funeral home holds memberships with several industry organizations, including the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association (ICCFA), The Southern Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Association (SCCFA), and the Cemetery Association of Tennessee (CAT). For more information about cremation and funeral services, Williams Funeral Home & Crematory is here to help. Visit the nearest location at 2517 Trotwood Ave Columbia, TN 38401. Call any time if immediate funeral services are required, or if the family would like to schedule a preplanning consultation: (931) 388-2135.
