Established in 1989, Brushstrokes is Atlanta's largest gay and lesbian variety store and one of the country's largest gay-owned and operated stores, a spokesman said. Brushstrokes consists of two retail stores in the Ansley Square shopping center off Piedmont Avenue. The main store stocks more than 40,000 items, including T-shirts, underwear, greeting cards, music, DVDs and gifts. Five doors down from that space is Brushstrokes Pleasures, an adult store that sells and rents DVDs, magazines and books.
This shop offers sheet music, music books and music themed gifts. The staff is very friendly and their knowledge level is very impressive. This "hidden jewel" is the only business like it in the area. Two of the owners are Lexington residents and are big supporters of the local community.
