The Beverly Hills Public Library houses books, audio books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs, videos, music CDs, CD-ROMs and more. The library also features special collections and reading rooms for children and young adults, in addition to offering literacy programs, book discussion groups, exhibitions and special events.

Only books and audio books can be renewed past their original due date. These items can be renewed 14 days at a time, up to two times. Interlibrary loans and items placed on hold cannot be renewed.

The library has public computers that provide access to the internet, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and library-subscribed electronic resources. All computer stations use an automated reservation system, and a library card or guest pass is required for login. Access to public computers is limited to 2.5 hours. Guest passes, which cost $1 each and provide one hour of computer time on the day of purchase, are available for computer users who do not have a library card. There are additional computer stations designated for catalogue and database searches only, but these stations do not require a library card or guest pass.

To get a library card, a patron must fill out a registration form and bring it to the library with two forms of identification, one with a photo and one that shows a current address. A mail drop or P.O. Box will not be accepted. Library cards are issued for free to city residents, as well as all residents of Los Angeles and Orange counties. Special provisions are made to those outside these areas who work, own a business or property, or attend an accredited school in Beverly Hills.

The Beverly Hills Public Library also accepts passport applications on behalf of the Department of State. For more information about applying for a passport at the library, call 310-288-2279. Passport photos are also available.
