Teachers and administrators at La Cañada Elementary challenge all students to think critically, solve complex problems, express themselves articulately in speaking, writing and technologically and to work cooperatively and individually in a diverse and multicultural world.
This school was established in 1969 as a way to extend the ministry of St. George's Episcopal Church in La Cañada Flintridge. The school provides a half-day program for children aged three through five. The curriculum encourages children to think, create and reason. It also enhances physical development. Programs focus on language development and social skills along with respect for cultural diversity. Creative expression and appreciation for the arts are also highly encouraged.
Foothill Progressive Montessori Academy began in 1984 with 12 students, ranging in age from five to 12 years. In 1994, the pre-school component of the Academy relocated to 827 Houseman Street, also in La Cañada Flintridge. The elementary and middle grades remain at the Indionola Way site. Developing strong academic skills is the chief objective of Foothill Progressive as it works to hone social skills, physical fitness, consideration for others, musical and philanthropic appreciation and an understanding of cultural diversity. According to the school's website, the key is to develop well-rounded students who will grauduate to become productive members of society. Foothill offers art education, computer class, dance, music, spanish, gymnastics, summer programs and day care.
