The upper level focuses on outdoor living with a selection of patio furniture, outdoor fireplaces, pottery, decorative accessories, annual and perennial plants, fertilizers, seeds, water gardening materials and even a hardware store. The lower level is oriented toward landscaping, with mulches and soil amendments, nursery stock and hardscape materials, including a large selection of field and river stone. Pine Valley Farms is owned and operated by the Wolfe Family and is open during the holiday season from November 20 to December 23. A variety of trees are available for purchase including, blue spruce, Canaan fir, concolor fir, Douglas fir, Fraser fir and white pine trees. Free machine tree cleaning and bailing is provided. The fields of Pine Valley Farms are well groomed, absent of vines or thorn bushes. Hot dogs, hot chocolate, cider and crafts are available during the weekends. Thai farm is tucked away in the western end of the King Farm neighborhood among tall, corporate buildings. Since 2002, the three Maryland-native owners of Thai Farm have crafted a traditional Thai menu, served beside a backdrop of hand-painted murals of the Thailand countryside. The kitchen cooks without any MSG or trans fats, and the manager confides that one of the reasons she loves working there is that she can truly recommend nearly all the dishes on the menu as favorites. The full bar offers a place to grab a drink, should you stop by during happy hour from 4pm to 7pm. Thai Farm offers full catering, free take-out and delivery, and is also available for private parties.
The Montgomery Farm Women's Cooperative Market features produce and crafts from sources local to Bethesda and, on market days, offers dresses, jewelry, furniture and accessories from places as far-flung as India and Indonesia. Stop by if you like local and organic produce, or if you want to sample area cheeses or pastries. Be sure to check the schedule if you want to visit while the market is in full swing.
