Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. The park is 2,923 acres and includes Kennesaw Mountain, along with three historic battlefield areas. Hikers may explore its many trails, which pass by earthworks and Civil War-era cannons. The park also offers educational programs such as the Junior Ranger Program.
Monmouth Battlefield State Park straddles Manalapan and Freehold in a more rural section of both towns. The park is the site of one of the largest battles of the Revolutionary War. Each year, Monmouth Battlefield State Park hosts a reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth that draws thousands of people.
The park has opportunities for hiking, as well as a visitors center and exhibits for information on the Battle of Monmouth. Battleview Orchards, located within the park, has opportunities for apple picking.
