Greensboro Housing Authority is a quasi-governmental corporation that provides housing options for the low- and moderate-income citizens of Greensboro, N.C. Established in 1941, it is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners. The housing authority manages more than 2,000 public housing units in more than 15 communities, including Applewood, Baylor Court, Gateway Plaza, Hampton Homes, Hickory Trails and Lakespring in Greensboro. It also administers more than 2,500 vouchers that provide rental assistance to families renting housing units owned by private landlords. The housing authority offers a variety of residential programs, including computer education, resident s councils, the Police Neighborhood Resource Center, the family self-sufficiency and youth programs. The housing authority is funded by a variety of sources, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development, rental income and grant awards. The housing authority is located in Greensboro.
