Iowa Interstate Railroad is one of the oldest regional railroads in existence, with connections to all major Class One carriers at various points on its line. In addition to its role as a transportation company, IAIS is a supplier of information systems through its subsidiary Rail Traffic Control. RTC provides railroad dispatching and transportation consulting services to railways in the United States, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, South Africa and Bolivia. The Iowa Interstate Railroad was founded in 1984 to operate on the former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific mainline between Chicago and Omaha in the United States. Heartland Rail Corporation purchased this trackage from the Rock Islands trustee in order to preserve the lines as a through route. From 1991 through 2003, Heartland Rail Corporation and Railroad Development Corporation owned IAIS. Subsequently, IAIS became a wholly-owned subsidiary of RDC.
