Founded in 1908, Clifford Street Elementary School is a small, urban school located in the hills of Echo Park. The school is also a Blue Ribbon School of excellence and earned an API score of 845 in 2009. Programs and initiatives include an arts program with visual arts, dance and theater. There is also a partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, an after-school arts program that features drumming and keyboarding and a physical education program.
In 2009, the school had 180 students, 10 certificated teachers and one teacher without full credentials. Armineh Alexan is the principal.
Yorkdale Elementary School is a public elementary school that enrolls students in grades Kindergarten through sixth. It is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school has gradually improved its academic performance over the last five years, and in 2010 increased its annual performance index from 727 to 774. The school also achieved federally mandated Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). As a result, it is not in program-improvement status.
Blessed Sacrament is a private Catholic school on Sunset Boulevard just a few blocks east of Highland Avenue, on the grounds of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, in an Italian Renaissance-style building. While schools officials recognize that parents have the primary responsibility to educate their children, the school offers a formal education that nurtures, supports and compliments the parents' training. Founded in 1913 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart, it became a Jesuit-sponsored school in 1923. The school offers a computer program in all grades, and two technology labs were completely refurbished and re-equipped in 2010.
The West Hollywood Children's Academy provides a safe and fun environment for children ages 2 to 5. The school is actually a brightly colored house, painted like a rainbow and hidden behind a tall fence. The grounds feature plenty of green space and playground equipment for children to enjoy. The school prides itself on providing an environment that encourages decision-making, interaction and the creative arts.
As part of Local District 4 of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Rosemont Avenue Elementary School serves more than 1,200 students in the first through fifth grades. The school is a single track school with three classrooms for special education students. The school participates in the Title I program, which provides supplemental materials and services as well as the GATE program, which seeks and refers gifted children.
