The Dane County Highway and Transportation Department designs, coordinates and maintains the transportation system throughout Dane County. The department is responsible for planning, building and maintaining the county s network of roads and highways. It plans, promotes and financially supports parking ramps and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Its engineering division designs and manages roadway-related construction projects. It also maintains records of highway plats, plans and other related projects. The department s administrative division issues various permits and formulates policies. It undertakes the supervision of roadside mowing, trimming and brushing, replacement and repair of mailboxes and planting of trees along the roads and highways. The department is located in Madison, Wis.
