Florence Nightingale Middle School is a large public middle school located just ouside of Highland Park in the community of Cypress Park. It enrolls students from across Northeastern Los Angeles. The school's erformance has steadily improved since the 2005-2006 school year, when its Annual Performance Index was 617. As of 2009-2010, the school had raised its API to 703.

Elysian Heights Elementary School has been educating children since 1915. It teaches prekindergarten through sixth grade and is is a Title 1 Academic Achievement Award winner. In recent years the school launched a visual arts program with an emphasis on pottery, theater, dance and visual arts. The school has an organic garden as well as a computer lab. In the '50s the school adopted a gray-striped tabby cat called Room 8, who, although no longer living, remains a beloved character at the school today. The school has 16 teachers. S. C. College of Music is a music school for all ages. It teaches a variety of instruments including guitar, piano, violin, flute and other woodwinds.
